Thank you to Mary Stanton of Xi Alpha Omicron for reporting on the Membership workshop held January 16.
Lola Ruby from International in Kansas City, MO, was our guest speaker on January 16th, 2010. She spoke about Beta Sigma Phi's 78th year anniversary and the theme,“Share our Passport to Adventure.” She talked about rushing and the need to bring friendship to our sisterhood. She stressed that we need to think about bringing younger women into our Chapters because they do bring us good ideas. Speaking of younger members, Lola mentioned that the Ritual of Jewels Chapter in Missouri recently had an extreme make over. You can read about it in the Torch.
When do you need a friend the most? During Holidays! Bring joy to other women and invite them to join your chapter festivities during holidays such as Valentines Day, St. Patrick's, or other holiday rushing social events.
She spoke about the importance of volunteering for things like the service projects, socials, and ways and means. She said the sisters should think about holding an office at the upcoming elections in March. Get involved!
A question was asked about sending our Chapter minutes to International. Lola said our chapter minutes can be sent to International in the future, but at the moment they are still working out glitches on their computer.
She also reminded us to take advantage of the 10 percent discount when ordering from the Gift shop in February and March.
Our members indicated that they would like to see the Torch in hard copy (printed) form again but she indicated they have had an over whelming response to only offer the online version. International discussed several options to offer a printed version of the Torch. Due to the high cost of printing and postage, they will offer a printed version only if members choose to pay a small yearly fee of $14.00. If a quota of 5000 is not met, your money will be refunded. The deadline is March 1st, 2010. If interested, contact International. She said they prefer Credit cards.
The next New Mexico Convention will be in Hobbs, NM from September 24th through September 26th.
Mary Stanton was invited by her real sister, Valeska Thompson (a BSP member for 43 years), to attend the Convention in Denver, Co June 24-26.
Approximately 35 Sisters attended the Workshop. A variety of foods were served for lunch including salads, finger foods and a selection of desserts.
Each guest was given a great door prize.
Respectfully Submitted,
Mary Stanton
